Commissioning Engineer (Elec & Mech)

Who are Smurfit Kappa Machine Systems?

Smurfit Kappa Machine Systems are experts in developing, producing and installing automated packing lines to deliver high levels of service to their customer base within Green and Industrial solutions.

Reporting directly to the Workshop Team Leader, the Commissioning Engineer, with electrical and mechanical skills, will be involved in the delivery of capital equipment projects from build in the factory through to installation at customer site.

  • Responsible for project success working as part of a project team.
  • Electrical and mechanical assembly, implementation, and Installation.
  • Ensure all relevant safety objectives and legal requirements are observed for all work completed.
  • Complete assemblies to the required cost, quality and delivery standards.
  • Identify and resolve electrical problems during assembly and commissioning.
  • Identify and resolve mechanical problems during assembly and commissioning.
  • Support other project team members in the resolution of problems as required.
  • Identify recommendations for continuous improvement of system design.
  • Maintain accurate records and files according to quality standard.
  • Working with Workshop Team Leader and Managers to develop systems and processes to maintain workshop to a high standard.
  • Looking for Development in PLC programming, fault finding and Safety Systems and Principles.
  • Assist with power up and commissioning of equipment both in Yate and on customer sites.
  • Installation of capital equipment on customer sites.
  • Take the lead on installation and commissioning of standard equipment.
  • Attend equipment breakdowns as required to support the Service Team on site.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
  • Ability to efficiently organize and plan work tasks to meet company goals.

Essential experience:

  • Recent experience assembling complex product handing solutions incorporating conveyor systems.
  • Electrical fitting experience including panel building, integration of panels into systems and the wiring motors, sensors and safety switches in a fully automated product handling system.
  • Experience of installing pneumatic systems.
  • Electrical engineering qualification – ONC or equivalent.
  • Experience of delivering training to customers.

Desirable experience:

  • Any mechanical engineering qualification or experience.
  • Electrical engineering qualification such as HNC level or equivalent.
  • PLC programming or principles knowledge/awareness.
