Business Development Manager - (Southern Region)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Business Development Manager to join our specialist XXL integrated business based in Abercarn.

The role will cover the southern region, so ideally candidiates will be residing in the following areas, Cardiff, Bristol, Swindon, Bath, Heathrow, Slough, Oxford, and within access to the M4 corridor.  This is an opportunity for a proactive and driven individual to focus on developing new business opportunities and managing some existing sales accounts.

Key job requirements 

  • Identify and open new business opportunities on behalf of the Smurfit Kappa Abercarn, XXL specialist business.
  • Achieve ambitious growth targets in existing and new market sectors.
  • Deliver excellent customer service excellence to both, existing and new customers.
  • Ensure the company achieves its targeted profitability levels.
  • Main Duties

  • Responsible for identifying new sales opportunities with both, existing and new customers.
  • Deliver continuous, high levels of customer service, dealing efficiently with customer issues within an agreed timeframe.
  • Able to communicate with all levels of the business and customers effectively.
  • Create a structured territory plan to manage and maintain existing customers as well as grow and develop new business opportunities.
  • Identifying market trends and quantifying demand for potential new products.
  • Network with other Smurfit Kappa sites to identify new business opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain multi-level contacts within all current and future customer base.
  • Ensure the business is informed of any key market changes such as competitiveness, competitor activity, and new product development.
  • Effectively manager customer contractual and supply agreements, ensuring they work within the agreed terms.
  • Represent the company at the highest level within the customer’s organisation, maintaining the highest professional and ethical standards at all times.
  • Responsible for forecasting and achieving annual sales budget, including profitability.
  • Work on own initiative to develop specific business strategies in full alignment with the Operational Management team.
  • High level of presentation skills.
  • Consistently manage, maintain and update the CRM database. 

Essential and Desirable

  • Confident and articulate individual who demonstrates personal drive and focus, sound commercial acumen and excellent customer relationship skills
  • Demonstrate an effective strategy for account management and new business development.
  • Exhibit a successful performance history of identifying and achieving profitable and new business.
  • Experience of detecting, prospecting and selling throughout a wide range of market sectors.
  • Naturally analytical and inquisitive to identify market trends and new sales opportunities
  • Knowledge of the wider packaging industry would be useful as well as B2B field sales experience.
  • A full driving licence will be required and an ability to travel daily (with an occasional overnight stay if required).
