Multi-Skilled Engineer

Smurfit Kappa Beacon has a unique opportunity for a Multi-Skilled Engineer to work  in our successful sheet plant based in Aldershot on a weekly rotating AM and PM shift (Monday to Friday, 6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm).

Working within a production environment our Multi-Skilled Engineers are responsible for providing a responsive engineering service to the Sites Operations Team to ensure high levels of machine availability, efficiency, reliability, safety and quality standards are achieved and improved upon. You will make rational and informed decisions with regard to breakdown solutions and be responsible for providing effective and long-term solutions to continuously improve machine reliability.

The key responsibilities will include:

  • To provide engineering support to the department with regard to both Breakdowns & PPM.

  • Responsible for identifying necessary parts and equipment required for repairs & improvements.

  • To carry out both electrical and mechanical installations within the skill set.

  • To make rational and informed decisions with regard to breakdown solutions and completion of individual projects.

  • To carry out Electrical & Mechanical repairs within the scope of ability & requirements.

  • Execute planned and unplanned maintenance activities to an agreed standard, ensuring safe working always and carrying out Reactive and Preventative Maintenance.

  • Ensure all site assets are maintained to a high standard, meet site requirements and are reliable.

  • Use SAP to capture all maintenance activities (training will be provided)

  • Attain the engineering standards across the site by providing functional support and expertise

  • To perform on relevant Engineering KPIs

  • Ensure a robust and clearly communicated safe system of work is applied for all activities that you undertake properly risk assessed.

  • Ensure parts are booked out correctly to help control stock levels in stores

  • Be able to work effectively as a team not only with the engineering team, but also with production.

  • Work in accordance with site certifications.

  • Actively engage and participate in all elements of Health and Safety requirements

  • Promoting an environment of continuous improvement at all times and assisting in process improvement projects. 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • HNC Preferred

  • ONC qualification must

  • Ability to demonstrate Electrical/Mechanical installation experience

  • Experience of working within a Production or Service environment – preferably Print or FMCG (3 – 5 years).

  • Capable of using PLC I/O as a diagnostic tool 

  • Experience of inverter, servo, DC drives

  • Worked with circuits from 415 to 24VDC power & control

  • Understanding of pneumatics

  • Previous experience with conveyors, chains, sprockets, belt-driven machinery and fan applications

  • Worked with high-speed rotating machinery

  • Fabrication experience

  • Strong commitment to health and safety

  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to adapt to changing situations

  • Strong team player and capable of working on their own initiative that contributes to the team's success 

  • Good communication skills at all levels
