Business Development Manager

Due to continued expansion and further investment, Saxon Packaging (part of the Smurfit Kappa Group), has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Business Development Manager.

Reporting to the Sales Director, the successful candidate will be an integral member of the Sales Team with responsibility for New Business Development along with maintaining and growing our existing customer base.

Applicants will ideally be based in East Anglia and have experience within the corrugated industry. Those without industry experience and with a successful and proven track record for developing and winning new business would also be considered.

Main Duties and Responsibilities


  • Identify and win new business in line with our strategic plan and to support our recent capital investment.
  • Develop and maintain a healthy sales pipeline.
  • Support existing sales team in managing and developing our present customer base.
  • Lead contract negotiations with key accounts.
  • Keep CRM updated, prepare presentations for key opportunities.
  • Establish and develop relationships within Smurfit Kappa to maximise inter-group sales.


Other key responsibilities include; Identifying customer trends, exploring and recommending new market trends and sectors.

Key Competencies and Knowledge

  • Previous sales experience and ideally within the corrugated industry (corrugated experience is desirable but not essential).
  • Driven, positive and enthusiastic approach to spotting opportunities and winning new business.
  • Self-motivated and ambitious.
  • Excellent communicator and relationship builder.
  • Have a flexible approach and a ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Good all-round IT skills.
  • Hold a valid UK driving licence.
  • Experience within a busy sales environment
  • Be able to remain cool and calm under pressure.
