Shift Manager

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Shift Manager join our team at Yate.

Working as part of the Operations Team, on a 3-shift rotating pattern, the successful applicants will be highly motivated, focused and driven, demonstrating a positive can do and safe attitude together with excellent self-organisation and motivation skills.

Key job requirements 

Zero Harm

  • Build and drive a safety-first culture, ensuring we are putting safety before production and by acting as a role model.
  • Execute signing off all the required Safe Working Systems of work by the production crews before beginning the specific operation / task by teams.
  • Ensure the production crews to follow all the Health and Safety regulations respective for the specific area as well as the general company requirements.
  • Manage the reporting of accidents or incidents.
  • Drive increases in safety conversations and hazard reporting with teams.
  • Comply with the Company safety requirements as detailed within the Smurfit Kappa UK SHE Policy

Quality

  • To ensure we are producing fit for purpose board and all quality checks are in place.
  • Ensure the customer receives OTIF, to 98.5% target.
  • Ensure optimal resources utilisation (people / machinery / raw materials) to minimise the production costs and customer complaints.
  • Ensure appropriate product / machinery allocation and undertake the corrective actions if required to ensure the optimal output in terms of quality and costs.
  • Ensure access to the necessary training for the production crews to broaden the available knowledge and skill base and thus to secure the optimal outcome in terms of costs and quality.

Production

  • Secure on-time realisation of production orders.
  • Execute the appropriate information flow regarding planned orders and demand on production consumables.
  • Establish and maintain the regular feedback and information flow between the corrugator, conversion, despatch, customer services to secure the smooth product flow.
  • Drive performance of machines with area managers and crews and ensure there is regular feedback for all involved.
  • Minimise cost and waste at every opportunity, working with CI.

People

  • Ensure availability of the crews with appropriate skill base to run the specific orders.
  • Oversee the maintenance works, with the area managers, across the production area and plan the preventive initiatives in close conjunction with the Engineering department to secure availability of required capacities and any maintenance-related issues on the machines.
  • Regularly check the crew’s allocation to ensure the best utilisation of skills and knowledge of the available resources.
  • Act as a source of expertise for the production crews and manage the performance and development of the production crews.
  • Keep control over the designated machines in terms of its operational condition and ensure the respective crews are performing all designated maintenance and cleaning duties and responsibilities associated with the specific machine.
  • Ensure team members have an annual appraisal and feedback on performance.
  • Manage and drive Short Interval Control (SIC) as best practice across the three production areas, ensuring crews take ownership and escalation with engineering and production, as part of the 24-hour process.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

  • Must also be willing to take on all requirements from a senior management level for the operations of the business.            
  • Whilst the above outlines many duties that are required within this role, this is not an exhaustive list of duties, and you may be required to perform additional duties as part of your role as directed by management.

  • Must be able to manage a team effectively and efficiently on their own.
